Local Spotlight: Novi Educational Foundation
For more than three decades, the Novi Educational Foundation (NEF) has been working to enrich the Novi Community School District in order to provide every student with the opportunities they deserve. In this local spotlight, you’ll learn more about what this vital organization is doing to put every Novi child on the track to success.
The Novi Educational Foundation Mission
As a father himself, NEF President Chris Harpenau understands the importance of widespread enrichment. They work diligently to raise funds that help every student in the district thrive in areas such as leadership, conflict management, critical thinking, and self-confidence; characteristics that will sustain them throughout their lives.
They inspire children K-12 with district-wide funded programs that are constructed to fit the needs of each specific age group. The K-4 program develops respect and responsibility in our youngest while high school seniors will have key adult transition and preparational resources at their fingertips.
Essentially, they supplement the financial contributions provided by the district so that no student is denied opportunity purely because of a lack of funding.
How NEF Creates Opportunities in the Community
NEF is less of a traditional organization and more of a network of support that comes from individual donors, local families, members of the district staff, and local businesses. Through the shared goal of creating a brighter future for the children of Novi, they raise funds and awareness to make their mission attainable and sustainable.
One of their most lucrative fundraising strategies is offering a variety of fun annual events for the community. Kick off the school year at their all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast, or get dressed up for the annual Green Gala, a night full of fun and entertainment.
To further tighten the bonds within the district, they also sponsor an event called Superintendent Sub Day. The NEF holds a drawing for one district staff member to get a half-day off and either the Superintendent or the Assistant Superintendent will step in to take their place. Not only does this show deep appreciation for the hard work of teachers, but it also lets the children engage with important leaders of the district.
