Where JVS Human Services Got Started

Nearly 80 years ago, JVS Human Services was founded as Jewish Vocational Service. Over the years, the name of the organization became truncated to JVS Human Services as its mission grew exponentially. What started as one passionate staff member became a dedicated team of more than 300 people working hard to help the people of the Greater Detroit area.

This organization started as a women’s employment bureau but soon grew to offer an array of services for men and women. After World War II, their focus became Holocaust survivors, disabled soldiers, and refugees fleeing Europe. They not only found them work but also help them reintegrate into society.

Today, they still offer job placement services to job applicants of all kinds as well as an array of resources for seniors, students, and homeless individuals.
