Sometimes only Mexican food will do. You just need something spicy, fresh, colorful, and flavorful. Here in Novi, MI, we have a lot of options for you to consider.
Barrio Cocina Y Tequileria
Barrio Cocina Y Tequileria a vibrant, gorgeous spot to stop in for wonderful Mexican cuisine. Everything is based on traditional stylings, made from scratch, but creatively updated in ways you’ll really appreciate. The handcrafted drinks are also delicious. If you choose to imbibe, though, please do so responsibly and never drink and drive. If you want, you can place an order online and pick up from their host stand.
It’s hard to narrow down their menu to just one thing. Their totopos are amazing ways to start, and their flautas with the chihuahua cheese are a meal in themselves. Their tacos come three to an order, though you can order just one if you ask your server. We particularly like the carne asada. The street corn is amazing, as are the grilled jalapenos. And if you’re in the mood for margaritas, we highly recommend the mezcalero: mezcal, fresh pineapple and lime juice, cilantro, jalapeno, agave, and chili lime salt on the rim.
Two Tostadas
For fresh, authentic Mexican delights, you can’t do any better than Two Tostadas. Opened by a husband and wife team, they only offer carry out, but once you’ve tried it, you’ll have a hard time not stopping there every day on the way home from work. Their focus is fresh, made-to-order food with quality you can count on. They cook their food just like it’s cooked back home in Mexico, though there are some Tex-Mex offerings available for those who prefer a more American flavor. This is especially popular for those with kids.
We especially recommend their chiles rellenos, which come with cheese-stuffed chili peppers. For tostadas, you can get pork, chicken, ground beef, chorizo, or steak in corn tortillas, all topped with cheese and toasted to perfection. Their homemade queso fresco is the best you’ll ever eat. And while it’s not their specialty, the chicken tenders are really good and highly popular with our kids.
El Patio
If you just want something fast, friendly, familiar, and priced well, El Patio is a traditional mix of Tex-Mex and authentic Mexican, with good beers and margaritas, too. The vibe here is very upbeat and the decor matches that. It’s a great place to bring family or friends. They also have lots of delicious vegetarian specialties and a kid’s menu that your little ones will enjoy.
Their lunch specials are worth a try: the Speedy Gonzales comes with one taco, rice or beans, and an enchilada. We love their gauc dip and the chori quezo, and the combination dinners are all a great deal. Try #17: a burrito, a chile relleno, and a tostada. You can also create your own combinations or choose a la carte options. For dessert, we love the sopapilla deluxe and the chimi cheesecake.
